Legacy Billing System DB2 To Oracle
Large Organizations like Electric Utilities typically implement best-of-breed systems to cater to the specialized requirements of their various businesses. Some examples are:
Customer Information System: based on Legacy, Mainframes, or on client-server RDBMS architectures |
SCADA/EMS System: based on real-time, redundant architectures using VMS, Unix flavors, etc. |
Outage Management: based on Legacy, Mainframe, client-server architectures |
AM/FM/GIS Systems: based on Graphical / Geographical data base architectures |
Analysis /Engineering/ Planning Systems: based on FORTRAN language programmed systems |
The above systems get implemented at different time frames, and all have dependencies on each other for operations. Some interfaces are batch-oriented while some others require real-time interfacing.
The Customer Information System was based on IBM Mainframes, and a combination of Cobol, DB2 and VSAM technologies. A new system based on a client-server architecture using Oracle technology is being implemented.
CompuSharp was involved in the specification and development of Interfaces for connecting the disparate systems. Appropriate technologies for messaging middle-ware were recommended, after taking into account Organizational, Training, and Support issues.
The following multi-step process is involved:
Business Process Analysis, leading to Development of Data Dictionary |
Constraint Analysis - Operational, Financial, Time Constraints |
Design of an Enterprise-wide Application Integration Strategy |
Development and Implementation of Interfaces |
Strategy for Migration and Conversion of Legacy data files into new architecture |
CompuSharp has the right expertise and experience to design and configure the Interfaces to make the migration process smooth and efficient.
